PURPOSES
The Observatory proposed (third stage of a research started a few years ago) is a further occasion to think over the contemporary man's living necessities in relation to the changes that the present time, with its new parameters and directions, imposes.
Living necessities that are looking for an expression in new spaces where to live, among which are the ones referred to the house, traditionally primary space.
The reflection, in the specific, develops itself through the observation and recognition of the many different 'typologies' of relations-interactions that man today establishes with space at every level. Investigation processes that, if being carried out with a wide 'vision' of the phenomenon, define and affirm a real and own new culture of living founded on the consciousness of the man-house-cosmos unity and on the search for quality in their relations.

1. activity of selection and collecting researches
Through CONFERENCES, STUDYING DAYS, PROJECTIONS, the redaction of REPERTORIES, WORKSHOPS (PORTO and MADRID) and a CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS, some design, artistic and theoretical elaborations will be collected and developed at different levels of investigation and in different disciplinary fields.

2. discussion and development of researches
The selected researches will be known through the realisation of a WEBSITE, the organisation of an EXHIBITION, the edition of some PUBLICATIONS.

The most significant researches for the teaching, the definition and the transmission of the proposed theme will be selected as materials for the final exhibition and for the scheduled publications.

The observatory will give the preference to the researches that put in evidence the interactive relation existing, at different levels, between man and space and between space and 'cosmos', that define these different typologies of interactions, that describe traditional or new forms of living based on the consciousness of these relations, that study typologies of houses and of domestic spaces whose quality is the quality of these relations.
The majority of the researches sent will be in any case presented on the Observatory website.

WEBSITE, EXHIBITION, PUBLICATIONS

A web page
www.anghelos.org/observatory.html is realized as a necessary and useful way for all the Observatory participants to meet. The page will contain, besides some basic materials (bibliographies, dossiers,...), the materials elaborated during the activities proposed and during their different phases (conference texts, selected researches from the call for contributions, works of the Madrid and Porto workshops, repertories,...) and a forum for the comments.
The page, will be active during the whole research and will show an on line version of the final exhibition, and it will become at the end of the project an archive for future researches.

An exhibition, collecting all the elaborated and selected works of the Observatory will be realized in october 2003, at the end of the research activities.
The exhibition will first take place in Palermo (Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa) and then will move to other national and international places.
During this exhibition, a final discussion on the presented works will be organized with the help of external critics like François Burkhardt and some critical mentions will be awarded to the most significant works in the different categories.
Moreover, during the exhibition, a video projection will take place and will present the videos elaborated and selected by the call for contributions and other videos on the "contemporary domestic space" theme.

Some publications containing works elaborated and selected by the Observatory will be realized.
These publications with texts in italian and english will be edited by a national or an international editor

A certificate of participation will be given to all the participants to the different activities of the Observatory.

BASIC MATERIALS
introductive materials to the Observatory are the book La casa dell'angelo ( the angel's house) and the materials of the exhibition Quali spazi per l'uomo? ( Which spaces for man?) from the precedent edition of the Observatory.

Materials of exhibition are in part exposed on the site and the book is available by the secretary 's office of the Observatory.
